The Song of Woe, 2021

The event took place by the Brandenburg Gate (Berlin, Germany) in the summer of 2021 and featured the Red Rebel Brigade — an international performance artivist troupe that supports organizations fighting against the mass extinction of species. Incorporating the elements of dance and pantomime in their performances, they dress in red symbolizing common blood shared by all species.

Natural disasters caused by climate change, environmental catastrophes, and finally, the pandemic add to the common vibe of uncertainty. Now, when humankind is increasingly forced to suffer the aftermath of self-harm, making reliable predictions appears more difficult than ever. The action engages all the spectators who suddenly become its protagonists. Lying on the ground, people feel the performers wandering like criers among them, thus turning a square in the heart of the European capital into a theatre stage.
